Jim and Janice Larson, Missionaries in Tanzania (East Africa)

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

The main focus of the Larson's ministry is to help equip local churches by teaching the pastors, elders, leaders and believers how to read and interpret the Bible properly. They are working with Intensive Care Ministries (ICM) which pioneered the Inductive Bible Study (IBS) program being used here now. ICM has two goals: 1) to teach people how to study the Word, and 2) motivate them to teach (disciple) others through the same process. If the believers do not understand God's word and know how to apply it to their own lives, how can there ever be any transformation and protection from being led astray? Transformation (and understanding) only comes by reading and applying biblical principles to our lives and growing daily in the Word. To help equip the people, 4-day IBS seminars are taken to the local people, wherever they may be (in cities, churches, bible schools, villages, and remote areas). Primarily pastors, leaders, and church elders from all denominations are invited to the seminars for the greatest impact to be made with this teaching, but no one desiring to grow in the Word will be turned away. We supply the instructor and all the teaching materials. They also distribute bibles at the seminars, conduct evangelism outreach through utilization of several films produced by Campus Crusade for Christ (in Swahili), make sure participants fully understand salvation and are given the opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and pass out Swahili gospel tracts to people we meet on the streets of the cities and villages we visit.

After spending 5 years training pastors and bishops from a variety of denominations in Tanzania, we are now getting requests from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia to bring training to these countries. Thankfully, the trained pastors from Tanzania want to be missionaries, so we will send them across the borders to begin conducting seminars, identify candidates to attend the 30-day training center course, and then instruct their African brothers in this longer program. The goal is to raise up leaders in each of these countries to reach their own people. Please stand with us prayerfully and financially as we continue to equip the church in Africa with the most powerful weapon of all against sin--the Sword of the Spirit.
